Hanford And Richland High School Students Named 2023 National Merit Finalists

All five Richland School District students have been named 2023 National Merit Finalists! 

As Finalists, the students are eligible for a variety of scholarships either directly from the National Merit Scholarship Corporation or one of its corporate or college sponsors. Only 5 percent of students take the PSAT are selected as Finalists.

Five Richland School District students with aspirations of careers in STEM were named 2023 National Merit Semifinalists!

Hanford High seniors Grace Deng, Ourania-Maria Glezakou-Elbert, Anthony Petyuk and Sean Xu, along with Richland High senior Nathan Carr, earned the recognition by being among the highest scorers on the PSAT in the state.

When asked what it took to make it as a semifinalist, Grace Deng said, “a lot of studying!”

Now the five students wait to see if they are named Finalists later this year and eligible for a National Merit scholarship.

There were also six Commended Students recognized from Hanford High. Commended Students show an exceptional academic promise which is demonstrated by their outstanding performance on the PSAT. Hanford High students are Kaylee Burnett, Cody Cramer, George Gaul, Nicholas Rausch, Patrick Ryan and Jessie Shi.
